After opening seven sites in Los Angeles and four in New York City, hand roll bar KazuNori is preparing to open a new location in Calabasas at 4799 Commons Way.

The company’s eighth California location, and 12th overall, is set to move into The Commons shopping center in late 2025, according to Eater Los Angeles. When the new KazuNori opens, it will join a Sugarfish location on the property and a longstanding sushi favorite, Shibuya, just across the street, further elevating the shopping center’s thriving sushi scene. The new KazuNori will bring the same high-quality hand rolls that have made the brand a favorite to foodies across Los Angeles and New York City. The restaurant, known for its minimalist approach to sushi, will feature a 24-seat hand roll counter where customers can enjoy fresh and expertly prepared rolls.

The location is part of a larger expansion for KazuNori, which is also known for its other locations in Koreatown and Mid-Wilshire. Its Calabasas location is expected to cater to residents and visitors from surrounding neighborhoods, offering a sleek, modern dining experience. KazuNori is the creation of the Sushi Nozawa Group, the same team behind the popular Sugarfish chain. The brand’s dedication to sourcing top-tier ingredients and creating a simple, but elevated sushi experience has garnered a loyal following.

Since its debut, KazuNori has expanded beyond California and continues to grow as a standout in the hand roll-focused sushi dining scene. The menu at KazuNori revolves around high-quality hand rolls, with offerings like toro, yellowtail, and Santa Barbara uni as some of the standout options. The restaurant’s focus on high-quality fish, perfectly seasoned rice, and crisp seaweed makes each hand roll a delicious experience. Complementing the hand rolls are sides like edamame. KazuNori’s minimalist offerings showcase the flavors of each ingredient, making it a must-visit for sushi lovers.

Founded in 2014, KazuNori is the first restaurant of its kind—pioneering the hand roll bar experience and setting the standard for this now-beloved sushi format. Named after legendary sushi chef Kazunori Nozawa, who introduced the cylindrical-style hand roll to the U.S. over 40 years ago, KazuNori is known for its high-quality fish, specially harvested seaweed, house-made sauces, and signature warm rice. The Calabasas restaurant will feature a sleek hand roll counter, offering the same expertly crafted hand rolls that have made KazuNori a must-visit for sushi lovers in both LA and NYC, according to a company representative. Guests can enjoy favorites like toro, yellowtail, and Santa Barbara uni, alongside sashimi and edamame—all served in KazuNori’s signature minimalist style. The new opening joins SUGARFISH, KazuNori’s sister restaurant, within The Commons.
As part of the Sushi Nozawa Group, the team behind SUGARFISH, KazuNori’s mission is rooted in quality, simplicity, and tradition, with a modern, approachable twist. The Calabasas location will bring this distinct experience to a new neighborhood while continuing to lead the hand roll movement it created.
