After 41 years in business, Dong Il Jang is calling it quits. The longstanding Koreatown BBQ restaurant will have its last day, at 3455 W. 8th St., on Saturday, August 15, according to an announcement from Dong Il Jang over the weekend.

“After 41 years in Los Angeles we will be closing our doors,” the restaurant posted to its Yelp page. “Our last day of operation will be 8/15/2020. Our family would just like to say thank you to our wonderful customers and staff we will miss you all.”

Dong Il Jang’s website has since been taken down and a letter detailing the closure has been posted to the restaurant’s Instagram (shown below). What Now Los Angeles has reached out to the owners for comment.

Dong Il Jang joins a growing list of restaurants throwing in the towel amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. DTLA mainstay Bäco Mercat also this weekend announced it had shuttered for good and Terroni is hanging on by a thread at the base of the National City Tower building, among others citing similar hardships.
