La Michoacana Boyle Heights is adding a new location in Harvard Heights, located at 1705 S Western Ave.
The authentic ice cream shop with Mexican snacks will move into the former home of Payless Shoes in a 2,180 square-foot space. This becomes owner Jovan Padilla‘s second location, with the original in Boyle Heights at 2328 East Cesar E Chavez Ave. It’s uncertain when he expects to open the new locations, but customers can expect this store to open in early 2022. Padilla, Vice President of Coldwell Banker Alliance Realty, opened the first location in early 2018.
There, Padilla started to sells a variety authentic Mexican snacks, ice cream, and apparel. La Michoacana offers gummy snacks mixed with house-made chamoy, hard to find chips, such as rueditas, and other Mexican-favored snacks, including elote. For those who are looking for something more, the shop also offers larger meal options such as nachos and tortas.
The star of the show is their authentic Mexican ice cream, shaved ice, popscicles. La Michoacana Boyle Heights offers dozens of different ice cream flavors, including gansito, cookie monster, fruity pebbles, mange de leche, and tequila. It’s unknown at this point if the new location will feature any different ice cream flavors compared to the original. For those who want to remember the ice cream parlor beyond their visit, they offer hats with their logo on it.
To make things even sweeter, Padilla has always committed to helping to the community with his business. He is often found in the community giving out free paaletas to Boyle Heights residents throughout the year. Since opening three years ago, he has given out 700 paletas to Extra Nature Fest, 300 to the YMCA, 600 to Roosevelt High School, and 300 sugar-free paletas to White Memorial Hospital.
“We believe it is our civic responsibility as business owners to give back to our community.,” Padilla says. “We work diligently in collaborating with schools and organizations in the community of Boyle Heights. Overall, we hope this provides a better understanding of how La Michoacána Boyle Heights is committed to supporting its community.”
