Levain Bakery, the well-known New York-based bakery in Larchmont Village, is getting ready to open a new location in Venice at 1661 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
The company’s second Los Angeles location is set to open in the former home of Lemonade, according to the company’s website, and recently noticed by Toddrickallen. The new location coincides with the company’s 30th anniversary, as Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald founded Levain Bakery in 1995. It’s unclear exactly when the new Venice location will open, but it’s likely to be in early 2025, considering signage recently went on the building.
Those who don’t want to wait any longer to try these cookies can visit the one Southern California site in Larchmont Village, where customers will find thick, hand-crafted cookies baked fresh every day. The company offers a variety of signature cookies, such as Chocolate Chip Walnut, Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, as well as some limited-time flavors, like coffee toffee. While Levain Bakery has become known as one of the best cookie eateries in the country, the owners never had the initial intention of opening a cookie shop.
“It was 1995, and the small Levain team lovingly baked every loaf, baguette, and roll by hand every day. As for the cookie? That was a happy accident. Triathletes on the side, Pam & Connie whipped up a massive chocolate chip walnut cookie to keep energy levels high for training. A sample batch flew off the bakery shelves, and an icon was born. Our cozy shop became a neighborhood favorite and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Now, 30 years later, we’ve grown to bring the joy of Levain to more neighborhoods and cookie enthusiasts.”
