Little Fish, a seafood-forward daytime cafe nestled in Echo Park that has been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand for quality at a reasonable price, is getting ready to open a new location in Melrose Hill at 5035 Melrose Ave.

The company’s newest location is set to move into King Market, according to a recent liquor license application. It’s unclear when this location is expected to open, but it will be the company’s second full-service restaurant, following its flagship store at 1606 Sunset Blvd. Little Fish products can also be found at McCall’s Meat & Fish Co. and the Los Angeles Grocery & Cafe. This is a massive accomplishment for the owners, who have been serving the Los Angeles area with pop-ups, private catering, event planning, and more. After three years operating as a mobile pop-up across the Greater Los Angeles area, Little Fish has established a permanent location in Echo Park, offering a seasonal breakfast and lunch menu alongside its signature fried fish sandwich, with coffee and beverages provided by neighboring DADA Market.

The menu at Little Fish includes seasonal breakfast and lunch offerings served Wednesday through Sunday. Breakfast runs from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and features items like fish congee with striped bass, a shrimp sausage sandwich on coco bread, and a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich with Los Cameros cheese. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes a fried fish sandwich made with beer-battered Pacific striped bass, a grilled steak sandwich, and a vegan fried tofu option. Sides include crispy nori potatoes and a seasonal salad with gem lettuces and basil vinaigrette. The cafe also serves espresso drinks and specialty beverages, including banana milk matcha and the Elsinore, a black sugar latte topped with a sour cream-based cream cap.

Little Fish began as a backyard pop-up during the pandemic, founded by chefs Anna Sonenshein and Niki Vahle. It gained popularity for its fish sandwich and eventually opened a permanent location in Echo Park in December 2023. The concept emphasizes sustainable seafood sourcing and the utilization of whole fish. Its community work has included meal donations to fire victims and first responders. Recognized for offering exceptional quality and value, Little Fish continues to build community through thoughtful food and a commitment to giving back.
