A brand new restaurant, apparently called Delicious Monster, is looking to make its debut in Highland Park, located at 5526 N. Figueroa St.
This is the latest project from Cary Mosier, who also owns Gracias Madre, Cafe Gratitude, and Highly Likely Cafe. Now, the restaurateur has submitted documents to the Los Angeles City Planning Department to open a new 2,012-square-foot restaurant with a 400-square-foot patio. Thirty-seven customers will be seated within the 820-square-foot indoor dining area, while an additional 17 customers can be placed outside in the 820-square-foot dining area. The new restaurant hopes to move into the former home of Kitchen Academy.
Many details regarding the new restaurant have yet to be revealed, including the opening date and what kind of food will be served. What is known is Mosier will very likely establish some zero-waste program similar to what he’s done at his other restaurants. Mosier started his restaurant career in San Francisco with Cafe Gratitude in 2004. As he operated the cafe with other members of the family, he realized there needs to be a solution for the ongoing waste production from owning a restaurant. He carried this environment-friendly mindset with him to his other restaurant.
“Gracias Madre’s zero-waste cocktail program drastically reduces its carbon footprint by upcycling unwanted food scraps from the kitchen for use in their craft cocktails,” Mosier told Medium last year. “We also make canned cocktails with an extended shelf life, giving customers a long chance to enjoy it rather than tossing it out. Additionally, Cafe Gratitude composts all food scraps and utilizes as many dish ingredients as possible.”
