Gwen, the Michelin-starred restaurant from chef Curtis Stone, is closing its location at 6600 W. Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood after eight years and plans to relocate to the Westside.
The restaurant’s final day of service is expected to be in early to mid-August, depending on the outcome of ongoing lease negotiations, according to Eater Los Angeles. A new location has not yet been finalized, though Stone and his brother and business partner, Luke, are considering several options. A representative from the company tells What Now, “Gwen will continue in its Hollywood location while they continue to search for a new home. At this time, the team doesn’t expect to make the transition until early 2026.”
Curtis and Luke Stone opened Gwen in 2016 as a follow-up to their Beverly Hills tasting menu restaurant, Maude. The Hollywood space combined a butcher shop, bakery, and fine-dining restaurant under one roof. Gwen earned critical acclaim early on, including a 2016 award for “Most Beautiful Restaurant of the Year.”
The menu at Gwen evolved into a high-end steakhouse centered on a visible wood-fired grill. Initially offering a mix of tasting menu elements and à la carte options, the restaurant became known for its dry-aged meats, house-made charcuterie, salumi, and pastries. Its butcher shop gained recognition as a top meat destination in Los Angeles.
The decision to relocate Gwen follows broader challenges in Hollywood’s dining scene, according to Eater. The 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, along with the January 2025 wildfires, have contributed to a weakening business environment in the area.
Curtis Stone also closed Maude in 2024 after a decade of operation. The Beverly Hills space was transformed into the Pie Room, a casual daytime cafe and wine bar. Stone continues to balance his restaurant ventures with multiple television roles, including shows on Fox and PBS.
In addition to his Los Angeles operations, Stone opened Woodend by Curtis Stone in 2024. The restaurant is situated at the Maroma resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya, near Cancún.
