The independent San Diego-based Mike Hess Brewing is expanding to a sixth location in San Pedro, located at 1190 Nagoya Way.

The popular Southern California brewery finally makes its way to Los Angeles, coming to the new West Harbor Waterfront development replacing Ports O’ Call Village. Several other restaurants join in on this multi-million dollar redevelopment. So far, 65 percent of the available leasing space is accounted for and is expected to open sometime in the third and fourth quarters of 2023.

Mike Hess Brewing opened its first doors in Miramar, San Diego, in 2010 under owner Michael Hess. He started the Mike Hess Brewing Odyssey blog in 2009 to clearly define the meaning of a nano-brewery and detail the process for others on how to open a nano. Today, Hess is recognized as a national expert on nano-brewery and has opened four other locations in San Diego and one in Walnut Creek. The new San Pedro location will feature a 15-barrel brewhouse and a fermentation tank farm, plus a 20,000-square-foot outdoor Biergarten that is dog-friendly and filled with alfresco games.

“All of our locations are family and pet friendly and are staffed by some of the best beertenders in the industry,” according to their website. “Whether a beer geek or novice, our friendly staff will make you feel right at home and happily walk you through our lineup of truly hand-crafted, well thought out beers.”

Port of Los Angeles is currently amidst a $150 million remodel that started last year. Many former Port O’ Call Village tenants have either been served eviction notices or have moved to a new location, such as the San Pedro Fish Market, which moved down the waterfront to a larger location. Developers also plan to install a new promenade that will run along the water.
