Founded in 2015 by Tennessee State University graduates Clint Gray, Emanuel Reed, and Derrick Moore, the Black-owned business — Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria — is a burgeoning artisan concept founded on focus, flavor, and friendship.

The menu offers an array of delicious concoctions including signature pizzas, to-die-for cinnamon rolls, and a rotating beer & wine selection provided by local breweries.

With eight locations in Tennessee (one of which is a food truck paying homage to the late-great Tupac Shakur), two in Atlanta, Georgia, and one in Sacramento, CA, the trio recently announced plans to continue expansion in New York, Chicago, and, of course, LA. However, it’s unclear where the City of Angels stores will settle. This article will be updated as specifics become available.

Currently, the friends/founders are focused on building “the best corporate-owned stores” possible with their community-driven concept. It’s not known if franchising is in their future.

As for the name? It came from a joke the longtime friends [had] been laughing about for years:

“One of them has always been a slim guy, but the other two were always big fellas, forcing their mothers to shop for clothing in the children’s husky section,” explains the company website

What Now Los Angeles attempted to reach the founders for comment but did not receive immediate feedback.
