Fluffy’s Sno-Balls Founder Kevyn Lee has been making sno-balls, a famous southern treat similar to snowcones, since the age of 12 at his family’s store in New Orleans. When he moved out to California after Hurricane Katrina, he knew he wanted to bring the tasty treat with him.
“I noticed the only kind of cool summer treat around here was frozen yogurt and ice cream,” he said.
He wanted something cool and sweet that’s a little bit healthier.
“Sno-balls are great to have in SoCal,” he said. “It’s easy. There are a ton of flavors. You can add a bunch of toppings.”
In an attempt to give his neighbors access to quality flavorful desserts, Lee will open what he hopes will be the first of many Fluffy’s Sno-Balls this spring. To be located at 1208 Long Beach Boulevard, Lee is planning a soft opening for April 1 with more of an official opening on June 1.
“It feels like a dream come true to get to this point,” he said. “LA has become my second home. It feels very exciting.”
Not only will he be selling sno-balls, but other authentic New Orleans desserts as well.
“We want to let the good times roll,” he added.
With sizes that include ‘Jazzy’, ‘Crescent City’, ‘Big Easy’, and ‘N’Awlins’, Lee thinks the New Orleans-inspired dessert shop will be a big hit in the community. With an assortment of flavors that include Georgia Peach, Mardi Gras, Hurricane, and Sangria, there will a little a taste of the South in every sno-ball.
