Nin Cupcake Shop seems to be opening its first retail space at 4270 Melrose Ave, according to public records. Nin, helmed by Vietnamese-American baker Allison Thu Tran, regularly hosts pop-ups and participates in events throughout the Bay Area, L.A. and New York City.

Tran’s cupcakes are beautifully decorated and clearly made with meticulous attention to detail. Thrillist reported that “it took 102 experiments to nail a vanilla cupcake that satisfied her high standards.” While you’ll find some common flavors on Nin’s menu like red velvet, funfetti and strawberry shortcake, it also has a plethora of creative Asian-inspired flavors like ube ganache, mango sticky rice and adzuki red bean.

Tran started her cupcake operation as a hobby over a decade ago. She eventually went on to study at the International Culinary Center and has worked at a number of impressive restaurants and bakeries, including the two-Michelin starred The Modern and Momofuku in New York, and Mr. Holmes Bakehouse in San Francisco.

Tran could not immediately be reached for comment.
