A new shop coming to Whittier hopes to one day soon become everyone’s favorite neighborhood market and deli.
“How fitting that a relationship that got its start at a farmers market many years ago would eventually lead to love, happiness and a market of their own,” owner Aaron Melendrez posted on Instagram last week. “Without saying too much quite yet, we want to share the excitement… that the dream of opening a ‘Mom and Pop’ market is alive and well.”
The Instagram post went on to say that the neighborhood food shop, Uptown Provisions, will be coming in May 2021.
In more recent posts co-owner Sarah Lippman Melendrez can be seen sweeping up the floor of the new space.
“The hardships and misfortunes of a global pandemic sparked a desire to create a new path for our lives,” Melendrez continued. “A path where we can support those with similar philosophies and views of food and community. We can’t wait to work with so many craftspeople, farmers and artisans.”
The two appear to be taking over a former convenience or corner store, at 12819 Penn Street, and though they “took on a real fixer upper,” their market is reportedly coming together little by little.
Owner Sarah Lippman Melendrez declined to comment at this time.
