Daniel Godinez’s planned Polanco Mexican steakhouse restaurant is launching with not one, but two locations. Ahead of opening in DTLA, Polanco will first debut an outpost inside the Ayres Hotel in Manhattan Beach, at 14400 Hindry Ave. In DTLA, Polanco is set to take over the Preux & Proper spot but has since been pushed back as renovations and licensing proceeds, What Now Los Angeles (WNLA) confirmed with Godinez over the phone Tuesday.

Despite the hiccup with the DTLA location, Godinez still has something to be excited about with Polanco’s future home in Ayres. He told WNLA that it’s a beautiful hotel and everything looks just right to host a Polanco-themed restaurant. “They have that feeling,” Godinez said. “It’s a beautiful hotel and it fits well with the concept.”

Polanco will be a steakhouse that focuses mainly on traditional Mexican and seafood dishes, and “unique meats” supplied by local farmers. Godinez didn’t specify which meats in particular. There will be a great emphasis placed on cocktails and beverages — a celebration of both Mexico and California, with a wide selection of tequila and Napa Valley wines.

The location is almost perfect for Godinez, who explained that he wants to bring in something elegant and unique, combining a look that is both traditional and modern, requiring a little bit of an update. “It’s going to be fun,” he said. “We’re really proud of this concept.” Right now, Godinez is aiming for an opening in the middle of November. He did not provide a timeline for the DTLA outpost.
