The temporarily closed Ponchos Restaurant appears to be relocating in Winnetka, located at 20455 Sherman Way.
The restaurant was originally located at 20116 Sherman Way, but owner Alfonso Lujan was forced to close its door. Now, he appears to be relocating the business, according to a recent liquor license application, meaning customers can expect to find at least beer at this new restaurant. The relocated Ponchos Restaurant will be moving into the former Manuelito’s Mexican Restaurant, which has since moved to Tarzana. There is no set date as to when Lujan plans to move the business, and efforts to reach him so far have fallen short.
When the new restaurant opens, customers can expect the same authentic Mexican food available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The original location featured everything you’d expect at a Mexican restaurant, from burritos, quesadillas, and combo plates to pancakes and hamburgers. Some of their top dishes are their soups, including Caldo de res (beef soup), Caldo de albondigas (Mexican meatball soup), and Menudo (traditional tripe soup). Unlike the original location, the new Ponchos Restaurant will likely feature alcoholic drinks.
The new location, only a half-mile from the original site, will sit on the corner of Sherman Way and Mason Avenue, at the Sherman Square. Ponchos Restaurant will join The Thyme Pizzeria as the only known tenant in the strip mall, as most of the spaces are available for lease. Unfortunately for Ponchos Restaurant, the new restaurant will sit across Tacos El Puebla and Los Palomos. Hopefully, the new location works better for the company than the last.
