Los Angeles-based ramen restaurant Silverlake Ramen is opening a new location in South Pasadena, located at 1105 Fair Oaks Ave.

The new location will replace Penguins Frozen Yogurt and Coffee in a 2,160 square-foot space sometime in summer 2022. This is the latest announcement from the company, which is expected to open several new locations in the new year, including in Manhattan Beach, Chino Hills, Burbank, Monterey Park, Downey, Van Nuys. Owner Jitaek Lim started franchising in 2017 and passes another restaurant to franchisee Jinsu “Jimmy” Kim, who owns a location in Oxnard.

Silverlake Ramen currently has 18 locations throughout the country, including Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, and Washington. By the end of next year, the company expects to have at least 32 locations throughout the US.

Despite the increasing success of the restaurant, the menu remains simple. Silverlake offers a handful of appetizers, rice bowls, and ramen. All seven ramen options can be customized with over 20 add-ons. The new South Pasadena location won’t have any changes in its menu, considering all sites are consistent with their dining options.

“Silverlake embodies the free spirit and casual vibe of Los Angeles,” according to their website. “Cooked up by two chefs who drove their love for noodles and ramen, they dreamed up a brand that would be unpretentious and original in its way of thinking. Similar to the environment in which ramen was invented. We are now taking that vibe and serving up bowls of it in locations across the nation.”

CORRECTION: The previous article misstated the restaurant would open in early 2022. The new Silverlake Ramen is opening in Summer 2022 under franchisee Jinsu “Jimmy” Kim.
