Simpang Asia’s owner Leni Kumalasari feels strongly about LA’s lack of Indonesian cuisine representation, so she is filling in for where it lacks. Venice, a neighborhood where like-minded friends live, is apparently most notably missing this unique food. Kumalasari spoke with What Now Los Angeles (WNLA) about her future opening and Indonesian food’s potential in Venice.
“I love the people of Venice,” Kumalasari told WNLA about her decision to open up there. According to her, the Venice community seems more open to eating Simpang Asia’s kind of recipes, which she describes as being similar to that of Thai, Indian, and Chinese. Simpang Asia especially emphasizes things like fried rice, noodles, and curry.
The new restaurant will be located at 705 Lincoln Blvd in Lincoln Plaza, where Lincoln Blvd and Vernon Ave meet. Kumalasari stated that there are no current plans to open up future locations after Simpang Asia’s potential November 9 grand opening — which is dependent on how fast the construction gets done.
