Beau Laughlin and Jay Milliken have permanently closed their Kettle Black restaurant and takeaway marketplace Scout in Silver Lake. Kettle Black closed at the end of 2019 with a plan to “retool” and reopen, but now the spaces have been listed for lease through Urbanlime Real Estate. The plan was to “completely re-concept the business, design, and menu,” and reopen in spring 2020. Sister restaurant Sawyer, which sits adjacent to Kettle Black and Scout, remains open for now, serving guests on its outdoor space. The three spaces are contiguous, at 3705 – 3709 W. Sunset Blvd.
Urbanlime’s Lorena Tomb confirmed the news in a telephone conversation Thursday, acting as a liaison between the publication and Laughlin and Milliken, who did not respond directly to WNLA’s request for comment. “They were going to retool Kettle Black but when COVID-19 hit, they only reopened Sawyer because of the available outdoor patio,” Tomb said. By state mandate, restaurants in Los Angeles are only allowed to serve guests outside amid the pandemic. Those rules will be lifted when certian health thresholds are met by LA County.
Both spaces are available immediately, according to Tomb.
