The coffee juggernaut Starbucks is adding a new location in Glassell Park, located at 4008 N. Eagle Rock Blvd.
The new drive-thru coffee shop will take over three shut-down tenants: Choo Choo’s, L&M Liquor, and Lily’s Barbershop. These structures will be torn down and replaced with a new 2,200 square-foot storefront with a 762 square-foot patio. Starbucks has countless locations throughout Los Angeles and at least three already in Glassell Park. In fact, there’s a Starbucks in the Target across from this new location. Although the coffee chain can be found on almost every corner, they will still compete with local coffee shops such as Habitat Coffee, a few blocks away.
This new location will serve better for commuters who are looking for a cup of coffee without having to get out of their car. The new Starbucks will fit ten cars in its drive-thru, although desperate coffee drinkers will extend the line beyond that. The new Starbucks will also have 17 parking spots for those who want to go inside. There is no set opening date for this location yet.
Starbucks was founded by Jerry Baldwin, Gordon Bowker, and Zev Siegl at Seattle’s Pike Place Market in 1971. It would take two decades before the company expanded beyond Seattle to Chicago and Vancouver, Canada. Today, there are 15,202 Starbucks in the country, including 2,994 in California and 466 in Los Angeles County. There are no signs of slowing down for the global coffee chain, considering they have over 31,000 locations worldwide.
