Sun’s Wok and Mongolian BBQ, a fast casual restaurant specializing in build your own bowls and Mongolian style grilling, is getting ready to open in Van Nuys at 14445 Sherman Way.
The company’s new location is set to move into the former home of Toasted Bun, according to WhatNewSFV. While an exact opening date has not been announced, the Van Nuys restaurant will serve customizable bowls, fresh ingredients, and dishes cooked to order on the signature Mongolian grill. Customers can expect both hot buffet selections and a self-serve cold bar for Mongolian BBQ.
Sun’s Wok and Mongolian BBQ opened its original location in South Gate at 5840 Firestone Boulevard, where it continues to operate. The Van Nuys restaurant will function as the concept’s second location. A similarly named restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga appears to be a separate entity and is not affiliated with the South Gate or Van Nuys operations.
The brand’s expansion into the San Fernando Valley positions it within a dense residential and commercial corridor that regularly attracts quick-service dining. The new Sherman Way address sits along a well-traveled stretch of Van Nuys, offering accessibility for commuters and nearby neighborhoods. The move also fills a vacancy left by the long-running Toasted Bun, restoring an active dining presence to the site.
The menu at Sun’s Wok and Mongolian BBQ includes a range of Chinese buffet items available by the pound. Offerings include house-fried rice, chow mein, beef and broccoli, orange chicken, Kung Pao chicken, BBQ pork, Cajun shrimp, and fried chicken wings. Additional items such as egg rolls, sesame balls, tofu and vegetables, garlic string beans, and honey shrimp round out the hot bar options.
Guests building a Mongolian BBQ bowl will find a self-serve station stocked with proteins such as chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp, along with a wide selection of vegetables that includes broccoli, cabbage, bell peppers, onions, cilantro, baby corn, jalapenos, zucchini, bean sprouts, and tofu. Noodles, including lo mein, are also available for customization, providing a flexible format for guests who prefer to tailor their meals.
