DTLA’s Third & Traction development is set for a brand new sushi bar that will serve Japanese and Western-style handrolls and sashimi appetizers.
Yunomi Handroll is slated to open later this month, according to David Movsisian, the former head chef at KATSU-YA and the co-owner of Yunomi Handroll. The exact opening date is still up in the air, but Movsisian said that the build-out should be completed in about two weeks with another week needed to set up the opening. Currently, the estimated opening is around the first week of September. It will be located in Suite C of 806 E 3rd Street, adjacent to Apolis.
In November 2019, What Now Los Angeles reported on the planned opening of the business, which at the time was known as Yumé Handroll Bar. The new name, Yunomi, is a reference to a form of Japanese teacup that is made for daily tea drinking.
“Our concept includes [a] variety of Japanese teas served alongside handrolls at a bar setting,” said Movsisian. “All [loose] leaf tea varieties will be brewed and served in individual Japanese iron teapots, called Tetsubin.”
Yunomi joins a growing list of tenants in Third & Traction including Death & Co, Terraza Cha Cha Cha, Kreation Organic, and LOQUI.
An earlier version of this article stated that the opening is expected August 26. That is actually when build-out is expected to finish. This article has been updated to clarify that the opening is expected around the first week of September.
