Sweet Wheat Bakery, a charming French-inspired cafe and bakery located in Redondo Beach, is getting ready to open a new location in Culver City at 9341 Culver Blvd.
The company’s second location is set to move into the former home of Kay ‘n Daves and the short-lived Shake Shack, according to a recent liquor license application. It’s unclear when co-owners Romain and Alexandre Lecat expect to open this location, but it’s a massive achievement for the brothers, considering it’s the first time the duo has expanded the brand. The Lecats trained at the esteemed l’École de Boulangerie et de Pâtisserie de Paris, and created Sweet Wheat to bring authentic French baking traditions to the South Bay.
Sweet Wheat offers handcrafted French pastries, such as almond croissants and pain au chocolat, as well as artisanal breads like baguettes and sourdough. The menu also features elegant desserts, including macarons and éclairs, along with seasonal savory dishes such as quiches, sandwiches, and ratatouille. Additionally, Sweet Wheat offers French-imported drinks, including fruit nectars, Orangina, and espresso. All breads are handcrafted daily on-site, shaped with care, and slowly fermented over 48 hours to enhance the depth of flavor and texture.
This will be an excellent spot for the company’s second location, thanks to its busy spot on Culver Blvd with plenty of foot traffic. Nearby businesses like Trader Joe’s, Target, and the Culver City Farmers Market bring in lots of people who could easily stop by. It’s also close to homes and offices, so there’s good demand for breakfast and lunch options. Additionally, there is plenty of parking and it’s easily accessible, whether you’re walking or driving. All in all, it’s a smart location to help Sweet Wheat Bakery grow.
“When you step into Sweet Wheat, you’re welcomed into a warm, family-friendly space that brings the soul of a traditional French bakery and bistro to your neighborhood,” according to the company’s website. “Inspired by the boulangeries of France, we’ve created a place where craftsmanship, quality, and comfort come together in every detail — from the scent of freshly baked bread to the joyful hum of morning conversations over coffee.”
