Mexican taco and dessert restaurant Tu Madre is expanding to a fifth location in Santa Monica, located at 606 Broadway Ste. 100.

The new location will move into the former home of Obicà Mozzarella Bar, which closed down back in 2020, according to Toddrickallen. Tu Madre Santa Monica will likely open in the Spring or Summer of 2022, pending approval of a liquor license. Owner Joshua Pourgol started serving tacos and breakfast burritos in 2015 with love from a small and colorful shop in Westwood. Since then, he has opened three more locations in the area, including Hancock Park, Los Feliz, and West Hollywood.

Tu Madre has an uncomplicated menu packed with flavor, starting with their breakfast served all day. Their main menu items are their selection of tacos, burritos, and bowls, with 14 different meat and vegan options. For something smaller, Tu Madre offers street corn, beans and rice, and street tacos with either braised beef, pastor, or chipotle braised chicken. Of course, the last thing to try is their red velvet churros with cream cheese frosting.

“Our food celebrates flavors from across the city with a diverse array of ingredients and cooking techniques, including slow-roasted and braised meats and house-made fermented chili salsas,” according to their website. Plant-based tacos, burritos, and bowls are available so vegans can fiesta too. Our red velvet churros have been a sweet staple since opening.”

  • Fantastico! My whole team ate there today and they were the best tacos we have ever had! Everything was fresh, the flavors were unique and the 2 vegetarians did not feel left out! They were super busy but they handled it well. We are going again tomorrow..

  • Hey Owner of Tu Madre Joshua Pourgol

We thought it was cool when you opened Tu Madre in Santa Monica in December of 2022 because the food is very good, but Tu Madre is a terrible new neighbor in terms of noise.
And I don’t mean noise from your patrons Joshua. I mean noise from your restaurant’s exhaust fan on your roof that runs 24-hours a day 7-days a week.

My wife and I live across the street with our newborn baby and the noise is unbearable, so it’s hard to sleep. Some of my neighbors have spoken to your staff months ago about the noise but they don’t care because they don’t live across the street and don’t have to hear it. And I’m sure wherever you live, you don’t hear a restaurant’s exhaust fan running 24/7 Joshua.

My neighbors won’t go to your place. Joshua, you opened shop in the community, take the locals’ money and don’t care about our quality of life. Shame on you! There was no exhaust fan noise before you opened up shop. Dude! How hard and costly can it be to stop the noise and do some simple maintenance to the exhaust fan on your roof. Put a sound barrier around it like other places do to muffle the noise. Something! There are other restaurants around the area and they don’t make that noise. Fix it!

If you don’t fix the noise, then we will contact the City’s code enforcement and building and safety department and Santa Monica Daily press newspaper because we can’t continue having this noise.

    Thank
    Robert
