A brand new restaurant called Thaim is preparing to make its debut later this year in Old Pasadena, located at 20 E. Union Street, STE 160.
This new concept is set to move into the former home of Dirt Dog, according to a recent liquor license application. Thaim is owned by Ruethai Boonlieng, a seasoned food entrepreneur with an extensive background in Thai cuisine and dessert concepts. Boonlieng previously co-owned Zaab Nua Northeastern Thai Cuisine in San Francisco, where she helped grow revenue significantly. She is also the founder behind the U Dessert Story brand, which has multiple locations in the Bay Area and Thailand.
While few details have been made available about what Thaim will offer, the new concept is expected to bring a fresh addition to the Pasadena dining scene. The closure of Dirt Dog earlier this year left a notable vacancy in Old Pasadena, and Thaim’s arrival promises to reinvigorate the space. The immediate area surrounding Thaim is home to a diverse mix of dining options, including popular spots such as Bone Kettle, Sushi Enya, and Russell’s, which offer a range of cuisine from Southeast Asian fare to classic American comfort food. Javier’s was also recently announced around the corner.
Thaim’s location in the heart of Old Pasadena places it in one of the area’s busiest and most walkable neighborhoods. With high foot traffic, a mix of local boutiques and national retailers, and several established restaurants nearby, the new eatery is positioned to bring in both local residents and visitors alike. The Union Street address also benefits from proximity to major parking structures and public transportation, making it an accessible destination for lunch, dinner, or weekend outings.
