A husband-and-wife team has stepped in to take over ownership of the sports bar at 1345 East Thousand Oaks Blvd. The former owner shuttered Oaks Local in early December, and now new owners Ty and Nina Leatherman are putting the finishing touches on The Paddock, with plans to open in February.
The Leathermans used to frequent Oaks Local because it offered a spot to watch and bet on horse races.
“We had come here prior because we own horses that race, and we would always come here to watch the horses,” Ty told What Now Los Angeles. “We heard the place was going to be up for sale, so we mentioned to the previous owner we’d be interested.”
When the previous owner decided to sell, the Leathermans took the plunge into the restaurant business. They hope to keep that spirit alive when The Paddock opens for business, providing a family-friendly spot to bet, watch races and enjoy other sporting events.
The space offers 200 seats inside and a 68-seat outdoor patio. There are plenty of TVs positioned around the space, as well as a large LED wall for big games and races.
“No matter where you sit, you should be able to see whatever game or race you want to watch,” Ty said.
The menu will offer elevated bar food such as specialty pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, salads and finger foods. They will also offer breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays and a Sunday brunch featuring bottomless mimosas and signature items like their breakfast pizza with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, mozzarella cheese, sausage, green onions and hot honey.
The team is in the hiring process. When The Paddock opens, it will operate from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
“We want to bring a local place where people can watch the game and stop by, bring the family and come on in and enjoy yourself,” Ty said.
