On December 15, the Queen Mary — A historic Long Beach hotel built on a British ocean liner — finally reopened after closing in 2020.
To celebrate, the city provided free hour-long guided tours that included biographical lessons, some haunted history, and access to select areas of its promenade deck. However, the ship’s restaurants and bars remained closed.
Fortunately, following plumbing and other repair work, all of the ship’s amenities will be reopened in 2023, including its lauded seaside-view eateries and Art Deco watering holes, according to the city.
Long Beach has sparked up an agreement with Evolution Hospitality to manage the ship in exchange for a portion of the area’s revenues.
“Keeping the Queen Mary afloat has cost an estimated $6 million since the restoration project got underway earlier this year,” reports the LA Times. “But officials say the price tag is offset because the ship generates revenue through special events and filming opportunities, including a popular Halloween celebration.”
