The owner of an artists-in-residence located at 800 Main Street has big plans for a small space. James Murez, a local known for being the manager at Venice Farmers’ Market and a community officer for the Venice Neighborhood Council, hopes to open a six-seat restaurant by the beginning of next year. The service floor area for the still-unnamed eatery is a mere 74 square feet with the total square footage of the space being approximately 2,000 square feet.

Murez told What Now Los Angeles that the cozy restaurant will have a seasonal, rotating menu. “Maybe smoothies in the morning,” he said, along with eggs and omelets. For the evening he expects “healthy stuff, green stuff,” especially salads.

“I enjoy cooking, and I want to use my space more commercially,” said Murez, who added that he hopes “the restaurant will electrify, wake up the pedestrian visibility of the building.”

The restaurant will be on the ground floor and basement level of the existing three-story building.

The artist-in-residence unit, known as 800 MAIN is located two blocks from the Venice Boardwalk and beach. The building was designed as a “mini mansion” with an infinity-edge lap pool, speakers throughout, and video projection and screening areas.
