A new market may be coming to the Glassell Park neighborhood, according to documents recently filed with the city.

Glassell and General applied for a building permit at 3383 N Verdugo Rd., in Los Angeles, with the LA City Planning Department.

The Conditional Use Permit application is asking for the sale of a full line of alcohol for off-site consumption in conjunction with the operation of a new 1,150-square-foot neighborhood market and a 508-square-foot take out restaurant.

The applicant, Ryan Sweeney, also owns Verdugo Bar in the same neighborhood, at 3408 Verdugo Rd. Sweeney also co-owns a number of other bars, beer halls, and gastropubs in the greater LA area, including The Blind Donkey, Surly Goat, and Little Bear.

It’s too premature to share any details on the market, Sweeney told What Now Los Angeles on Wednesday. They are months out from even getting the building, he said. They still have to get approval from the city, which may or may not happen, before any work at the location.

Verdugo Bar offers a craft beer line-up of 20 taps, a rare “To-Go” menu featuring a variety of canned and bottled beer, and a full bar with an extensive collection of whiskey, tequila, and other spirits, according to the bar’s website. House infused cocktails and specialty boozed up slushies offer patrons even more drinking options to enjoy among the original 1930s elements of the interior lounge and large rustic beer garden where you’ll find DJs and gourmet food trucks on rotation.
