Veteran bartenders and Long Beach natives Rebecca Hinderer and Melissa Almarez are collaborating on Second Street’s newest breakfast spot, What’s Crackin. Although they’re still spitballing about breakfast and brunch, What’s Crackin is landing at 4722 E 2nd Street hopefully as soon as mid-October

What Now Los Angeles (WNLA) was able to speak with both Hinderer and Almarez about their soon-to-open and future Long Beach craze and it’s clear the full breakfast and full lunch menu is absolutely going to deliver a bit of sunshine. Following Hinderer’s employment with Long Beach’s other well-known breakfast spot The Breakfast Bar, she and Melissa decided to collaborate on something new and inviting.

“We’re just hoping to bring a bit of charisma,” Hinderer told WNLA. Despite being advised against opening during the COVID-19 pandemic, they feel there’s no better time to deliver a welcoming, community-based environment. What’s Crackin will be replacing the space the now-closed Thai Gourmet used to occupy, in the heart of Second Street, and a quick drive to the Belmont shoreline.
