Yunomi Handroll Expanding to Culver City for Second Location

The restaurant will move to the ground floor of The Culver Steps

Yunomi Handroll, the Japanese restaurant that reinvents Temaki and Western-style handrolls, is opening a new site in Culver City, located at 9300 Culver Blvd.

Restaurateur David Movsisian first launched Yunomi Handroll in DTLA Arts District in November 2019, at the start of the pandemic. Movsisian and co-owner Karren Antonyan are now getting ready to open the company’s second location on the ground floor of The Culver Steps, between Mendocino Farms and an upcoming AFURI Ramen. Movsisian tells What Now Los Angeles he hopes to complete the build-out early next year, with an expected opening date in Spring 2023.

These two new restaurants, which are joining current tenants Salt & Straw, Philz Coffee, and Pop’s Bagels, are just the beginning for the development. The 120,000-square-foot shopping mall currently has space for new tenants on the first and second floors, the latter only featuring an Amazon Studios. The Culver Steps also features a sweeping architectural staircase, which will provide a space for certain events, such as sunset yoga and BollyPop Dance Fitness.

When the new Yunomi Handroll opens next year, customers can expect a selection of Japanese and Western-style handrolls and sashimi appetizers. The restaurant will feature a sleek, industrial bar setting where customers can enjoy different sake and Japanese draft beer. Yunomi, a type of Japanese teacup used for daily tea drinking, will be celebrated through a variety of loose-leaf tea teas, which are brewed and served in individual Japanese iron teapots known as Tetsubin.
