Zankou Chicken Secures Ten-Year Lease For Financial District Restaurant

The opening date is still unknown, but the fast casual chain is expected to take over the Koja Kitchen space in December.

Zankou Chicken plans to replace Koja Kitchen, at 611 W 7th Street, in DTLA. The company signed a 10-year lease for the 3,527-square-foot retail space. The restaurant is expected to take the space in December.

What Now Los Angeles reached out to Owner Vartkes Iskenderian regarding the incoming Zankou Chicken, but was denied details on when the opening is expected.

Zankou Chicken’s first U.S. location opened its doors in Hollywood in 1984. The second location soon followed in 1992 at Glendale. Today, there are locations in Van Nuys, Anaheim, Burbank, Toluca Lake, Valencia, West LA, and Pasadena.

The Mediterranean restaurant serves rotisserie chicken with a secret garlic sauce, shawerma, chicken tarna, kabobs, and falafel with sides like hummus, tabbouleh salad, and pita bread.

Zankou Chicken’s popularity has grown so much over the years that it’s even been seen in popular culture. The restaurant has been referenced in Beck’s song, “Debra,” as well as the TV show, Curb Your Enthusiasm. The original Hollywood location as also the set of Childish Gambino’s music video for “Sober.”
