Mauricio Diaz has been operating Carniceria Los Compadres out of Lynwood for the past 16 years. Finally, his family-owned meat market has found a new home in Downey, at 10317 Lakewood Blvd, where Diaz will sell a variety of marketplace items, centered around various kinds of meat.
“I’ve been wanting to open a second location for a while,” Diaz told What Now Los Angeles. “A lot of people in the Downey area have been asking us to open a new location because they have to drive to visit my store. I’m making it look more high end. A little bit different than a traditional Carniceria.”
The new space, a former flower shop called A Unique Florist, is being completely renovated to differentiate itself from the previous Carniceria Los Compadres. “The one I have now has been open for about 16 years. It’s a bit beat up so I’m excited to open something new.”
Rib-eyes and tomahawks are amongst some of the focuses at the Latin meat market, along with dairy and other groceries — rice, beans, corn, peas, and other canned goods are options. Diaz is hoping for an opening of three to four months from now.
