Target, one of Los Angeles’ favorite retail juggernauts, is finally opening a location in Silver Lake, located at 609 N. Dillon St.

The 18,747 square-foot location is currently under construction, so customers can expect this new store to open sometime towards the end of the year, potentially early 2023. Targets can be found throughout Los Angeles County, including one a mile and a half away near Lafayette Park, but this will be the first one in Silver Lake. Now, Silver Lake residents won’t have to venture out of their neighborhood to get their hands on all the products Target has to offer, including alcohol. The store will be open every day from 7 am to 11 pm.

This new Target, the 19th in Los Angeles, comes on the heels of the company’s recent Target Forward initiative, a strategy to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. The company recently completed its first net-zero energy store in Vista. The team had a goal of building new ways to generate renewable energy while reducing the store’s consumption.

A few changes made to the Vista store include reducing the store’s emissions from natural gas-powered to electric-powered HVAC, switching to CO2 refrigeration, and adding more than 1,300 LED lights, which cut 10% off its total energy bill. The final design includes 1,620 rooftop panels and 1,800 solar carport panels. The successful transformation is reason to believe the company will soon take this model and expand it to other stores across Southern California and, eventually, the rest of the country.

“As a company and a member of the global community, it’s imperative for the health of both our business and our planet that we embrace new ways to move forward,” according to Target CEO Brian Cornell. “We know sustainability is tied to business resiliency and growth, and that our size and scale can drive change that is good for all. Target Forward influences every corner of our business, deepens our collaboration with our partners, and builds on our past efforts to ensure a better future for generations to come.”
