According to real estate data acquired by What Now Los Angeles, The Midnight Hour will move from its original spot at 701 N Maclay Avenue to a more expansive space at 1101-1103 San Fernando Road in Downtown San Fernando. The record store also has a recently opened location at 668 N Shoppers Lane in Covina.
The Midnight Hour offers an eclectic vinyl, CD, and cassette collection that spans metal, punk, post punk, goth, hip hop, reggae, soul, Spanish rock, cumbia, indie, and beyond. The neighborhood record shop also offers band tees, lapel pins, crystals, skincare and body products, hip-hop saint candles, and other collectibles, prioritizing products from local mom-and-pop shops.
In a recent video shared on The Midnight Hour’s Instagram, co-owner Sergio Amalfitano gave a tour of the new space while detailing the renovation plans. The new spot, which spans 4,500 square feet, will offer 4 to 5 times more music than the original store. The new Midnight Hour will also serve as a venue and event space, featuring two stages for live music. One stage will serve as a sound booth and a space for DJs to spin vinyl while guests pick through records on the weekends. The check out area will be decked out with fridges stocked with food and drinks, and a window that looks into the next room, which Amalfitano said would function as a venue for private events like quinceañeras and weddings. The second room will also allow The Midnight Hour to feature two bands playing shows at the same time or to host a club night where hip hop plays in the main room and cumbia plays in the back room.
The Midnight Hour Records also just announced that it will soon be a record label. Swing by The Midnight Hour at its Covina spot or old spot on Maclay Avenue to support local bands and small business owners in the San Fernando Valley and San Gabriel Valley.
