Golden State is closing its Fairfax doors of 12 years on January 4, 2021, the burger joint announced on Instagram Tuesday. As with a growing list of the city’s eateries — new and old — Golden State is a victim of the current health crisis.

“This year we were faced with a global pandemic,” the owners wrote. “You may have heard about it, Covid-19. We tried our best to take it on but it proved to be a formidable foe. We are closing forever on Jan 4th. Please enjoy your final burger before then.”

As Eater LA points out, included alongside the announcement was a rather well-done video, stylized as the opening of the hit Netflix show Chef’s Table, theme music, camera moves, and all. Followers of Golden State’s Instagram account were devastated, to say the least. “Absolutely crushing,” @derekburrito commented. “Golden State is an institution and I’m certain no one will ever make a better burger than ‘the Burger.’ So sorry about this.”
