A few months ago, What Now Memphis reported that local coffee franchise Ramblin’ Joe’s was planning to launch a new prototype café in Midtown. More details about the coffee shop have now emerged.

The new Ramblin’ Joe’s will be located on Broad Ave, directly across the street from Collage Dance Center. It will serve as the brand’s flagship training site, specifically designed to meet company standards.

CEO David Lambert explained that the freestanding coffee shop will be built from the ground up, allowing for a unique design that highlights local talent.

Unlike the company’s existing locations in Memphis and Nashville, which were all developed in pre-existing structures, the new café will embody the brand’s commitment to its Memphis roots through collaborations with local architects and artists.

Ramblin’ Joe’s quirky narrative revolves around Joe, an adventurous character who travels the globe on coffee-tasting quests, bringing unique flavors back to Memphis.

Each café will feature a core menu showcasing a wide range of coffees sourced from around the world, including seasonal offerings like the upcoming Maine salted maple coffee. This rotation ensures that customers can enjoy diverse selections wherever they go.

As the model for future locations, the Midtown café marks the beginning of Ramblin’ Joe’s expansion efforts. The company recently secured a multi-unit franchise deal in Nashville, with plans to open five new cafés over the next three years. Additional undisclosed locations are in development throughout the country.

The new coffee shop will feature outdoor murals, electric charging stations, and bike-friendly amenities, making it an inviting stop for cyclists on the nearby Shelby Farms Greenline. Lambert envisions the café as a vibrant gathering place where the community can come together to enjoy quality coffee.

“We’re trying to be very progressive and interactive for our customers, creating a cool place that truly epitomizes the spirit of Memphis,” said Lambert.

The Midtown café was initially slated to open in August, but construction has been delayed. Groundbreaking is now set to start this month, with a grand opening scheduled for late February 2025.
