16 Handles, the frozen yogurt brand that offers 16 different fro-yo “handles” to pull, is opening a Surfside location.
The frozen yogurt shop has applied for permits with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation and will open at 9509 Harding Avenue by the end of the year.
The shop was founded in 2008 in New York City. The original shop, located in the East Village, was the city’s first self-serve frozen yogurt shop, allowing guests to make their own dessert creations, choosing from 16 different “handles” in which to pull their desired frozen yogurt flavors. The shop rotates flavors, offering seasonal varieties, and also has vegan and gluten-free options available, along with all-natural ice creams and real fruit sorbets.
The company is also committed to giving back to the communities it serves. It promotes local school and community fundraisers that allow organizations to raise much-needed money for projects.
Led by CEO Neil Hershman, the company is poised for growth through its partnerships with local franchisees. The corporate executive first joined the company as a franchisee and can still be seen behind the counter at one of his Manhattan shops. Currently there are about 40 16 Handles locations, with 18 franchisees partnering to open new stores.
