Currently located at the Mandarin Oriental on Brickell Key, La Mar by Gastón Acurio is preparing to close its doors and relocate to the mainland, opening in Brickell at 1451 S Miami Avenue, according to a recent press announcement.
“It has been an incredible 10-plus years at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami, and now we are embracing the opportunity to refresh our look and further finesse the La Mar experience,” Gastón Acurio said in the press release. “While our new home will have the same feel and soul as the original, we a’re excited to introduce a more modern take on our vision, where every dish, drink and design element is elevated to the next iteration of La Mar.”
La Mar was founded in Lima, Peru and has since brought the flavors of Peruvian cuisine all over the Americas (and to Madrid). The menu at the Mandarin Oriental location, whose kitchen is headed up by Chef Diego Oka, features a Cebiche Bar with choices like Cebiche Clasico (fluke, onions, cilantro, cancha, choclo, sweet potato, classic leche de tigre) and Tiradito Lujoso (Japanese hamachi, blue crab chalaca, avocado, smoked trout eggs, radish, roasted peppers, confit vegetables leche de tigre).
Other favorites from the menu include La Fiesta Del Puerco (crispy pork belly with Carapulcra Nikkei sauce served with Peruvian inspired banchan, lettuce wraps served with white rice and choclo) and Conchitas Oka (our style pan-seared jumbo scallops, 24-month aged parmesan cheese foam, lime, garlic crumbs).
“We are grateful to be ambassadors of Peruvian cuisine and share our culture through food internationally,” Acurio adds in the press release. “With over ten years in Miami, Chef Oka has built strong relationships with the local community and local organizations. It will be wonderful to witness how he builds upon this foundation in the new location, guiding La Mar Miami into a new phase of life that continues to endear guests to authentic Peruvian food.”
Representatives of Acurio International declined to make any additional comment on the move at this time.
