What Now first reported on plans for Korean fried chicken brand Bonchon to open its first South Florida location back in October. That location, which will have its grand opening on the ground floor of the Moxy Hotel in South Beach in the first week of April, is now preparing for a soft opening next month in anticipation of that event.

“We’re trying to make it our flagship,” General Manager John Gonzalez told What Now on Wednesday. “There will be a party in the venue, with giveaways for the first 100 guests, a ribbon cutting, inviting local business owners. We’re still touching base with the Chambers of Commerce. We’re going to make a lot of noise about the opening.”

And as it turns out, that’s only the beginning.

“Kochalos Hospitality has a vision to open six restaurants in the area, starting with two this year, and hopefully breaking ground on numbers three and four at the beginning of next year.”

Bonchon’s second stop is in Doral, at 7901 NW 36th St, Unit 106. It’s a smaller space with counter service, and it’s still about two months away from opening.

“Doral would be sometime in April,” Walter Antezana, one of the Bonchon franchisees behind Kochalos Hospitality, told What Now on Wednesday.

The franchise’s menu of Korean fried chicken will also have a Miami-specific flare, particularly with some street foods and more Latin-style pork dishes along the lines of Chicharron, Gonzalez added.
