News first broke in late 2021 that NYC-born pan-culinary dumpling chain Brooklyn Dumpling Shop had South Florida in its sights for coming locations. A year and a half later, the ball is finally rolling on the chain’s South Florida arrival. A lease is being finalized for a Brooklyn Dumpling Shop near the intersection of Northwest First Avenue and Second Street Downtown, franchisee Voytek Faber told What Now on Tuesday.

Faber first encountered Brooklyn Dumpling during the pandemic-era lockdown in New York City.

“We were at friend’s house, and he said, ‘There’s this place that just opened,’” Faber said. “This friend has been vegan for twenty-five years, and it was a place that had things he could eat—and gluten-free versions, too. We were sitting there eating the food, and I thought, Oh my God, this is just so good.

In addition to its food, Brooklyn Dumpling Shop’s success in New York City—despite launching in the fateful month of May 2020—was its automat approach to dumplings, featuring contactless ordering and both hot and cold food lockers where guests can pick up their dumpling orders.

Those dumplings come in a wide variety of flavors, drawing on cuisines from all over the world. Traditional Dumpling varieties like Chicken Teriyaki Potstickers and Shrimp & Vegetable Shumai are offered alongside Crispy Dumpling flavors like—get this—Bacon Cheeseburger, Chicken Parmesan, and Buffalo Ranch Chicken, and Steamed Dumpling flavors like Gyro, Maryland Crabcake, and Short Rib.

The Miami location will also feature a new flavor: The Cuban Dumpling. Top this off with a variety of dessert dumplings and you’ve got a great dumpling experience.

Faber says a total of five Brooklyn Dumpling Shop locations are in the work for the Miami market, and BDS is still searching for a location in Wynwood (and beyond).
