Founded by Chef Raheem Sealey as a pop-up, viral barbecue concept Drinking Pig BBQ will open its first South Florida brick-and-mortar location next year. Drinking Pig’s first restaurant will open in Coconut Grove, at 3444 Main Highway, next to Chug’s Diner, according to coverage by the Miami New Times.
It’s not the brand’s first appearance in the New Times: it was also recognized by the New Times in 2024 for its barbecue offerings.
“We’re so honored to be featured in @miaminewtimes Best of 2024 for Barbecue, thank you very much,” said an Instagram post published by the brand at the time. “We are working to return soon in a permanent space.”
And Drinking Pig is keeping that promise! Soon, Coconut Grove will be getting the menu that made the brand an instant sensation.
“Drinking Pig BBQ quickly became a pandemic-era hit thanks to its three-person crew’s expert take on brisket, pulled pork, chicken, sausage, and pork ribs, along with sides like mac and cheese, cornbread, and collard greens,” the New Times coverage says, going on to include a 2021 comment made by Sealey in previous coverage: “We use the same low-and-slow technique you’ll find everywhere else, but we changed it up with the flavors we remember from growing up.”
Behind the opening are Ariete Hospitality Group, known for restaurants like the namesake Ariete, and Mae’s Group.
