Founded in Boca Raton, mobile coffee bar Cafe-Tico has been creating a buzz with its specialty Costa Rican coffee. Conceived at a soccer game, the brand is working to expand with a new mobile trailer and a permanent location inside Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.
The whole story began with the need for coffee at a weekly soccer game, co-owner Hazel Matic told What Now on Thursday.
“When we got there every week, there was no coffee—honestly, I couldn’t believe it, and I told my husband, somebody should sell coffee here!” Matic said.
Soon, the Matics were doing just that, with a tent and tables. A trailer was added in the brand’s second year, and a second trailer is now in the works. But the story isn’t just about that growth; it’s about a standout product.
“I loved coffee, and I knew about coffee, but I’d never had a chance to do anything,” Matic said. That changed when she traveled to Costa Rica to find the perfect coffee purveyor. “I went all over Costa Rica looking for the best coffee. I wanted to buy directly from a family, with kids like mine. I found one, and they have the most amazing coffee.”
In addition to coffee, Cafe-Tico offers baked goods sourced from local bakeries. There are also popular toasts like avocado toast and—the biggest hit—Ricotta, Honey & Pistachio Toast.
“It’s so simple and so delicious,” Matic says.
And soon you’ll be able to get it at more and more places. Cafe-Tico will be launching a new trailer soon, and they’ll soon be serving the community at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. We’re hoping to see lots more Cafe-Tico!
