Named the best steak in Doral, Argentinian restaurant and steakhouse Fuegos del Sur is preparing to launch a second location, this time in Kendall, at 8202 Mills Drive. The new location will offer the same proven menu of “the best cuts of meat with seasonal vegetables and spices” which embodies a “mix between the traditional and the modern.”

Fuegos del Sur’s chef Eduardo Apablaza came to the U.S. from Argentina when he was twenty-three, and he has worked in the restaurant business ever since. He worked at a restaurant in Doral before partnering up with co-owner Walter Martinez to open Fuegos del Sur in 2019.

“Then we went through the pandemic,” Martinez said in a phone conversation with What Now on Wednesday. “We were ordered to close in March 2020, and we reopened that June. And while we were closed, we decided to give it a push and come back stronger. That’s when we decided to make a few changes in our look, to make it more family-oriented, and to focus more on the meat.”

As far as the grill is concerned, Martinez says, the star of the show is Fuegos de Sur’s bestselling Picaña Himalaya, a 24 oz. Prime Top Butt cooked in a Himalaya Salt block with garlic and rosemary. The dish is completed tableside, where it is flambéed with rum. Other options from the grill include Parrilladita Fuegos (a selection of Argentine meats and sausages) and a 36 oz. bone-in ribeye.

“Our plan is to keep growing,” Martinez said. “The restaurant, the theme, everything has had a very good acceptance by the public. We are hoping that maybe by the end of this year we can have our third location, in Broward County, and continue growing.”
