El Palacio De Los Jugos, the Miami institution for juices, fruits, and Cuban favorites, is expanding.

The company filed permit applications with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation to open a bakery at 18545 S. Dixie Highway in Cutler Bay. The company’s website lists the address as “coming soon”, but an official opening date has not been announced.

El Palacio De Los Jugos is a Miami icon. Founded in 1977 by Apolonia Bermudez, the original window, or ventanita, was located on Flagler and 57th Street and served fresh-squeezed juices, tropical batidos (fruit shakes), and chicharrones with the idea of bringing a taste of Cuba to Miamians.

The stand, easily identifiable by its carnival-like yellow and red awning, was a hit, and it quickly expanded to a market selling fruit, eggs, cheese, and more — alongside a restaurant offering everything from breakfast and cafecito to platters brimming with meats, rice, and plantains.

Today, Palacio De Los Jugos, under the care of Apolonia’s son, Reinaldo, continues to be a beloved part of Miami’s culinary scene with celebrities like Bobby Flay and Andrew Zimmern visiting when they’re in town for a frothy batido or a plate of food. There are now more than a dozen locations, and the company continues to expand.
