This fall, a new bar called Mae’s Room is set to open its doors in Coconut Grove. Described in recent coverage by the Miami New Times as “an intimate space with just a few dozen seats and equal parts neighborhood hangout and classic cocktail den,” the new project comes from Ariete Hospitality Group and Mae’s Group, partnering with veteran bartender Tom Lasher-Walker.

Lasher-Walker told the New Times that Mae’s Room will be meeting a need, filling a gap in the South Florida hospitality scene: the neighborhood bar. It’s “the one thing that Miami doesn’t really have that many of,” the mixologist said.

One description of the bar included in coverage by the The Burn Miami puts it like this: “Inspired by the neighborhood it’s nestled in, Mae’s Room is a space where time refuses to exist. Dripping in walnut woods and rich olive green tones, this speakeasy library bar is the place the Grove has been asking for, a place to escape, to connect and unwind.”

That description comes from Studio Lobo, the Miami-based design house that’s behind the Mae’s Room space.

“This year, Mae—the Bronx-born Miami hostess—would’ve been 111,” says an Instagram post published by Mae’s Room. “We’re keeping her spirit alive with Mae’s Room, a cocktail den where her legacy of warmth lives on. Classics only. No pretension. Just a proper night party. Stay tuned.”
