You may know her for her collaboration on the Grammy-winning No Doubt song “Underneath It All,” or, more recently, you may have seen her in church. Formerly known as Lady Saw, Marion Hall, by way of her her relationship with God, has moved from life as the Queen of Dancehall to a life in the ministry. And now she’s taking things in yet another new direction, by opening a restaurant. This new spot, Pot-Ah-Love Jamaican Restaurant, will open in Tamarac, at 6716 N University Dr.
“It began with helping to feed the homeless over the years,” Hall told What Now on Wednesday. “I used to cook food at the house and bring it to church, and people really loved it, so I decided to do something with it.”
Launching in the University Commons shopping mall at the intersection of North University Drive and West McNab Road, Pot-Ah-Love will offer a wide variety of dishes from Jamaican cuisine, including some things you normally only find served with a home-cooked meal, Hall says. The menu is still under development, but Hall shared some of the dishes she’s planning on offering.
“It will be sort of like a roadside place in Jamaica. There will be curry goat, curry chicken, Jerk Chicken, Stew Pork, Jerk Pork,” Hall said said.
And there’s breakfast in the morning, too: think Ackee & Saltfish, think banana dumplings, think salt mackerel, boiled yams and more.
More news about Pot-Ah-Love is sure to come out in the coming months, so expect to see updates. But in the meantime, keep an eye an out for an opening in June or July, Hall says.
