Papi Steak, the unique steakhouse concept from David “Papi” Einhorn and David Grutman of Groot Hospitality, is moving on to a new chapter in its life.
It’s lived through several already. In addition to its Miami home, the brand also expanded to the West Coast, opening a location in Las Vegas’s Fontainebleau Las Vegas resort. Next, it’s preparing for a major makeover: Papi Steak will temporarily close its location in Miami Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood on September 2 to undergo major renovations, according to coverage by the Miami New Times. It will reopen in November.
The New Times is careful to point out that this temporary closing is different from other “temporary” closings that have characterized this difficult summer for the South Florida restaurant world. Plans for the Papi Steak renovations have been in the works for some time, the coverage says, and the November reopening is a firm intention.
“Papi Steak fuses Golden Era Hollywood swagger with modern day Miami energy to create an entirely new steakhouse experience,” says the steakhouse’s website. It “serves elevated contemporary twists on classic chophouse dishes. This includes its namesake: the Papi Steak, which is a Tomahawk-cut with the famous Papi Steak™ Sauce named in honor of David “Papi” Einhorn, a partner in the restaurant with David Grutman and Groot Hospitality. Einhorn is a grilling fanatic, and his special preparation (secret sauce included) is the restaurant’s flagship plate. The Papi Steak can also be ordered in a Beef Case: Inquire within.”
The menu also features seafood choices like Dover Sole with brown butter, lemon, crispy caper, and parsley, and Broiled Alaskan King Crab—and much more.
Designed by the Rockwell Group, the new space will carry guests through a “lacquered corridor lined with velvet walls and gold accents that leads to a reflective photo backdrop.” Expect lots of velvet and lots of red and turquoise. There will also be a new private dining room.
What Now reached out to David Grutman on Friday to ask about plans for the renovations. Grutman was not immediately available for comment.
