With 22 locations currently in operation and another three in the works, Voodoo Doughnut has traveled a long way from its original home in Portland, Oregon. You can now find Voodoo in Denver, Houston, Nashville, and even Orlando, At Universal Orlando Resort. And growth in the eastern United States is continuing: one of those three locations under development is planned for South Florida, in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood.
The neighborhood seemed like a perfect fit for Voodoo Doughnut, CEO Chris Schultz told What Now on Friday.
“We were fortunate enough to find that great location in this phenomenal area. It’s perfect for us,” Schultz said. “It has this unique culture, the diversity of people, restaurants, cultures, the nighttime crowd—everything that’s happening. There’s so much going on there.”
Opening at 2401 NW Second Ave, the new Voodoo Doughnuts will be open, Schultz says, “almost 24/7.” That’s because, like every Voodoo location, doughnuts will be made there practically around the clock.
“Our doughnuts don’t travel unless they go home with you,” Schultz said. “We have forty-plus varieties, and whether you get a hankering at 7 am or 1 am, there will be a fresh doughnut waiting for you.”
Voodoo Doughnuts come in a wide variety of flavors, including—to name only a few, and basically at random—Blueberry Lemon Fritter; Oh Captain, My Captain (yes that’s with Cap’n Crunch); Bacon Maple Bar; Viscous Hibiscus; and School Daze “PB&J.”
No official opening date has been announced yet, but Schultz says the hope is to launch in early summer.
“We’re incredibly excited, especially because we’re probably hiring about 75 people. So it’s not just giving people doughnuts; it’s also about putting 75 people to work in the marketplace.”
