Founder Jeremy Carlson created Crispy Cones, the growing ice cream chain that is “revolutionizing the soft serve cone,” when he was in college. The treat, a hand-rolled and then rotisserie-grilled dough cone dusted with cinnamon and sugar, has its origins in European countries like Czechia. Carlson tried it while traveling there and decided to make it his own, quickly expanding from a popup to a food truck, then to a brick-and-mortar dessert shop, and then to franchising around the country. Then Crispy Cones made a big splash in season 14 of Shark Tank. And now the brand’s website now lists 17 locations either opening or coming soon in 11 states.

One of these is set to open soon in Palm Beach County—at 11940 US-1, Suite 120, in Palm Beach Gardens.

“We saw Jeremy and his wife on Shark Tank, and my husbands said, ‘That looks great,’” franchisee Angela Cannella told What Now on Monday. “Then we started doing research and saying, okay, this is a great franchise, we should get on it. Next thing you know, we were having a Zoom meeting and meeting the team.”

Hailing from New York, Angela and her husband Vincent are preparing to launch their first Crispy Cones next month, along with a second a little further down the line, and the excitement around the brand is palpable.

“We make everything fresh, from scratch,” said Cannella. “You roll the dough out on a dowel in the shape of a cone and then you grill them. Then you can put a topping on the inside, like Nutella or peanut butter. There are specialty cone toppings once a month, and a specialty ice cream flavor comes out every Monday.”

This week’s specialty flavor? Salted Caramel. The specialty cone? Coconut.

“We said, ‘Let’s do something exciting,’” says Connella. “We both love ice cream, so it was a no-brainer. And the cone is unbelievable. We use all high-end products, so you have chocolate ice cream made with chocolate custard. It’s beautiful.”
