Originally founded as a food truck, locally born smoothie and acai bowl brand Smoothie Squad has found its own niche, and it’s running with it. Headed up by longtime fitness entrepreneur and former bodybuilder Derek Alvarez, the brand opened a smoothie bar inside UFC Gym Kendall not long ago. Now it’s expanding to a second location, this time at UFC Fit Plantation.

“We started as a food truck in 2018 and start hopping around from gym to gym,” Alvarez told What Now on Monday.

As Smoothie Squad expands to its second UFC spot this summer, Alvarez says he’s looking to expand further in the future.

“I’ve been into fitness my whole life, and I always wanted to create a product where we don’t add any sugar; we use real protein, no watered-down products. So, to keep things as fresh as possible, we cut all the fruit right then, to order. It takes a little longer, but the quality is night-and-day different.”

The new Smoothie Squad will open in UFC Fit Plantation this July.

“Healthy is our flex,” says the Smoothie Squad Instagram page, where you can keep up with the opening and other news.
