The hospitality company behind Miami waterfront restaurant The Rusty Pelican is currently at work on a new restaurant in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Sweetwaters, an indoor-outdoor restaurant, will open in Huizenga Park, according to recent coverage by the South Florida Business Journal.

Located at 32 E Las Olas Blvd., Huizenga Park is about to undergo a major redevelopment, with groundbreaking expected for early 2024.

“We are beyond proud to be chosen by DDA [Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority] to be part of this transformative park project,” John Tallichet, President and CEO of Specialty Restaurants, says in the Journal coverage. “Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s growth and enhanced prominence as a culinary destination made it a natural choice for us to establish our presence here.”

The multilevel restaurant will occupy a total of 12,688 square feet, opening along Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale. Its outdoor dining area will comprise nearly 6,000 square feet of additional space.

No information has been released yet about Sweetwaters’s menu offerings. What Now reached out on Tuesday to John Tallichet to inquire about plans for the new restaurant’s menu. Tallichet was not immediately available for comment.
